The Nintendo Switch will have GameCube games in its Virtual Console library, and we already have an idea of which titles will be available for download in its early days.
EuroGamer‘s Tom Phillips, who also accurately leaked what the Switch itself was going to be, has learned from three seperate sources that GameCube support has already been tested for Switch and is fully functional.
It is being engineered by Nintendo European Research and Development (NERD), who also oversaw the NES Classic Edition’s development.
Three games “have already been prepared” for the Switch’s GameCube Virtual Console. Those titles are:
- Super Smash Bros. Melee
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Luigi’s Mansion
The Super Smash Bros. Melee port is apparently being made specifically for the competitive scene. “The desire within Nintendo [is] to continue making Super Smash Bros. Melee easily playable”, said Phillips.
The original Animal Crossing is currently seen as a potential release, as well..
Tom Phillips also reports that Virtual Console titles purchased on Wii U can be ‘upgraded’ to Switch for a “small fee”.
Expect more details about Virtual Console on Switch at Nintendo’s Switch Presentation January 12th.
