Zelda: Breath of the Wild seemingly runs at 30 FPS on Switch

It seems as though The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Switch won’t be as buttery smooth as some gamers had hoped for.

That isn’t to say that a game running at 30 frames per second (FPS) is a bad thing, but as members of the PC Master Race can attest, it’s always nice to have a game run at a higher frame rate.

Zelda fans had speculated that Breath of the Wild may run at 60 FPS on Switch, considering that the last original mainline entry in the series, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, ran at 60 FPS on 3DS.

Reddit user Kokush0 noted that The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon is filmed at 60 FPS, and he decided to slow down footage, frame by frame.

In the GIF shown here, only one out of every two frames shows movement on the Switch’s screen, which proves that the game was running at 30 FPS on the Switch’s screen.

Lest not forget, however, that the Switch is reportedly capable of improving game performance when docked, so it may run at 60 FPS when played on a TV screen.

Kokush0 also analyzed the off-screen footage from The Tonight Show, but since the game is running on a projector which may not be capable of outputting 60 FPS, there is no way to know how the game performs when the system is docked.
