The Nintendo Switch will soon be getting its own Banjo-Kazooie.
Playtonic Games, the developer of the crowd-funded 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee, announced on its official blog that the game would be skipping Wii U and instead be making its way to Nintendo Switch.
“The Playtonic team is sad to confirm that despite our best efforts and exploring every possible avenue, we’ve encountered unforeseen technical issues that unfortunately mean it will be impossible for us to release the game on Wii U as initially planned”, said Playtonic.
In the same blog post, the developer announced that Yooka-Laylee would be releasing on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac and Linux on April 11, 2017.
No Nintendo Switch release date has yet been announced, but Playtonic assures that it is “working very closely with Nintendo” to bring the spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie to its next console, and that more details will be announced in 2017.
Playtonic is not the first developer to announce a Switch version of their game and swiftly say that more details are coming next year. Perhaps Nintendo will have some kind of third-party/indie blowout at the Nintendo Switch Presentation on January 12th.
Only time will tell.
